Getting conservation on the ground

July 31, 2018by ncdea

OHIO, Ashland SWCD — Said Jane Houin, District Manager for the Ashland Soil and Water Conservation District, “The concept of soil and water conservation is a broad one, and it’s handled differently by soil and water conservation district across the country and even across Ohio. There is no one-size-fits-all conservation program. As much as we would like to be able to address all of the soil and water conservation issues Ashland County faces in one fell swoop, the reality is that our soil and water board and staff have to identify priority areas where we think we can be most effective and focus our efforts on those projects.”

“For Ashland Soil and Water, our top priority right now is helping farmers get conservation programs on the ground…The big question is, how are we making an impact on Ashland County’s farm acres?”
