TEXAS, Matagorda County SWCD – In keeping with Earth Week nationwide, the Matagorda County Commissioners declared April 28 through May 5 as Soil and Water Stewardship Week in the county during Monday’s meeting of commissioner’s court.

The proclamation noted that fertile soil and clean water helps provide daily sustenance and effective conservation practices have helped provide a rich standard of living and stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these precious resources.

Members of the Matagorda County SWCD #316 were present for the proclamation. Chuck Baker, a board of director with Matagorda County SWCD, said the local district was founded in 1943.

“The purpose of the district is to help residents of the county conserve soil and water,” Baker said. “We work with the residents of this county to help conserve soil and water in the county.”
