Longmont, Boulder Valley conservation districts continuing legacy of agricultural protection

COLORADO, Longmont CD, Boulder Valley CD – For 15 years, Nancy McIntyre led the Longmont and Boulder Valley conservation districts, agencies with historic roots that receive little public attention despite their important mission of protecting soil health across hundreds of square miles in Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties.

She retired from the executive director job almost two years ago, but after each of the district’s two succeeding leaders stepping down soon after assuming the roles, McIntyre agreed to return to the conservation districts in an interim executive director position in which she remains today.

Despite being around for more than 70 years, the districts are not well-known to those outside agricultural communities, but are vital organizations that help carry on the productive heritage of local lands and continue to look for ways to help farmers.
