OHIO, Lake County SWCD — North Perry Village in 2018 made good use of a state grant to complete a stream restoration project, Mayor Ed Klco said. In September, a contractor and village employees teamed up to complete a project that was funded in large part by a 319 Grant awarded by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
North Perry’s project focused on floodplain restoration to a stream located west of Townline Road. Goals of the project included restoring 900 linear feet of floodplain and restoring natural flow to the stream; stabilizing 1,800 linear feet of streambank using bio-engineering; and removing and treating 1.2 acres of invasive species and planting native grasses, trees and shrubs in riparian areas.
“The 319 Grant project was a big success,” Klco said, emphasizing the importance of keeping water in the community clean and flowing properly…He also thanked the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District for preparing the village’s successful application for a 319 Grant.
WYOMING, Teton CD — What becomes of Jackson Hole’s sewage is complicated, but how that human waste is enters the environment just became easier to follow.
A GIS map, and the underlying data that feeds it, takes into account detailed information like the diameter of sewer lines underfoot or the year a raised septic system was permitted. The final product, which is available at JHCleanWater.org, was a collaboration between the conservation district, Teton County, Friends of Fish Creek, Nelson Engineering and Alder Environmental.
